P.O.G. swimming (adapted swimming)

Sport in the water should be possible for everyone.

Passend Onderwijs en Gehandicaptenzwemmen (P.O.G.), swimming for people with a disability, is intended for adults who for whatever reason have a limitation that keeps them from taking part properly in the regular swimming programme, or from visiting an ordinary swimming pool during the usual swimming hours.

P.O.G. swimming is an activity in which, alongside the swimming, various exercises are done to keep you moving. These exercises are led by a qualified swimming instructor.

The water temperature is adjusted to around 30 degrees and a range of (flotation) aids is available.

Special facilities for swimming lessons for people with a disability

Sport & events complex Merwestein has all the relevant facilities, such as accessible changing rooms, accessible toilets and parking right by the entrance.

One-to-one swimming lessons are possible with us. We also use an extra heated pool at 32 degrees and a pool at the normal temperature: 27.5 degrees.

There is a chair lift as well (see photo), and special steps that can be placed in the pool if needed.

Why is adapted swimming important?

In a swimming pool you can move very freely because you do not feel gravity. You can build up your fitness more easily, but also simply float in peace. That can even have a therapeutic effect. Everyone can move in the water without overloading their joints.
